The Florida Baptist Convention was the victim of financial fraud due to spoofing communications between Send Network Florida and NAMB. Also, a faithful disaster relief worker in Illinois was killed when a tree fell on him.
Wellman recommendation declined by EC, new search team formed
Jared Wellman was brought forward as the recommended candidate to lead the SBC Executive Committee by the president search team, however the EC declined the recommendation. As a result a new search team has been named, and the process has been restarted. Also, CP numbers are in for April and giving is still above budget.
Stone to be nominated for SBC President, Rummage for Pastors’ Conference
Mike Stone announced he will once again run for the SBC presidency, and Oklahoma pastor Stephen Rummage will be nominated for the SBC Pastors’ Conference presidency. Also, The Mayor, Don Currence, will be renominated for the office of SBC Registration Secretary.
Charles Stanley dies; Dockery named president at SWBTS
Charles Stanley, the legendary pastor and TV preacher, died this past week at age 90. Also in the news, Southwestern has a new president and chancellor as David Dockery has been named the 10th president of the seminary with O.S. Hawkins joining him in the chancellor role.
Son-in-law of former SBTS president killed in Louisville shooting
A shooting at a Louisville bank took the lives of five people including the son-in-law of former SBTS president Roy Honeycutt. Also, pre-registration for the SBC Annual Meeting crossed 5,000.
EC to hold special meeting; Patterson case dismissed
The SBC Executive Committee’s search for a new president may be close to an end. A special meeting has been called May 1 in Dallas. Also, the Roe v. Patterson case was dismissed from federal court this week.
2023 Committee on Resolutions announced
SBC president Bart Barber has named South Carolina pastor David Sons as the chairman of the Committee on Resolutions for the 2023 SBC Annual Meeting to be held in New Orleans this June.
Former SBC President Johnny Hunt sues SBC, EC, Guidepost
Longtime pastor and former SBC President Johnny Hunt has filed suit against the SBC, the SBC Executive Committee (EC) and Guidepost Solutions. The suit seeks unspecified damages related to allegations of defamation and the invasion of privacy based on accusations made against Hunt in the 2022 Guidepost report stemming from an investigation into the alleged mishandling of sexual abuse by the SBC EC.
